Anchor Goatee Tutorial: The Definitive Guide

I get it. Some men are in love with goatees. Others cannot grow full beards and therefore choose goatees over the clean-shaven style.

The goatee is one of the most popular beard styles worldwide. Millions of men wear various goatee styles daily. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that my opinion about goatees has changed. I prefer the heavy stubble full beard over any goatee. But that’s just me. You can choose whatever suits you the most.

Since so many men wear goatees, a need for uniqueness is born. The anchor goatee is a unique goatee variation that will make you stand out from the crowd.

This article will discuss everything you need to know about the anchor goatee!

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

What Is An Anchor Goatee?

In short, an anchor goatee is a facial style that resembles the shape of an anchor hence its name. It is a unique and fashionable variation of the traditional goatee style.

Its main characteristic is a pointed end on the man’s chin, but it extends more widely and is not connected to the mustache. Speaking about the mustache, the mustache in anchor beards is typically kept contained and trimmed slim.

You can understand what I am trying to say by looking at the image. As the saying goes, a picture is worth 1000 words!

This style is for men that want to stand out. It adds individuality, and ruggedness and makes you look badass. It also shows a man who does not care what other people say and walks his own path.

Many men and women find this style very attractive because it adds a mature and masculine look to the wearer’s appearance. However, as with everything else in life, this style is not for everyone.

I highly recommend you get the anchor goatee, give it a week so that you become used to it and then decide whether this is a style you want to keep long-term or not.

At least, this is what I would do.

How To Trim An Anchor Goatee Like A Pro

To achieve an anchor goatee, you need to follow a general process similar to the goatee tutorial. What I mean by that is that you will need to shave your cheeks and everything on your neck that is not below your chin.

The neckline below your chin in a goatee is a whole different story.

The only hair you should have is a traditional goatee with a mustache. And we will take it from there.

At this point, I want to point out that anchor goatees require grooming skills and precision. We are going to create sharp and thin lines. A high-quality trimmer like this, is also required.

Without further ado, let’s start with the steps:

Step 1: Wash your face

Washing and cleaning your face is super important when trimming your beard, especially when you try to do a demanding beard style like an anchor goatee.

We want our facial hair to be soft, untangled and easy to cut to achieve maximum precision and comfort.

When you are done, dry your beard well.

Step 2: Choose Your Desired Goatee Length

This one may seem obvious, but I have seen many men skipping this step and then regretting it very soon.

Normally, anchor goatees are short beards. However, if you combine 2 goatee styles together, you can actually create a more unique variation, such as a long, pointed anchor goatee.

Most of the time, you should trim your goatee with guard 5-6. We don’t want it to be super long or light stubble. A 5-6mm anchor goatee is perfect.

Step 3: Create The Outline

Here is the most important part, so pay attention. Just before you start trimming your goatee to make it an anchor goatee, I highly suggest you take a moment to see 1-2 pictures of this style to visualize it correctly.

Remember this is a difficult beard style to accomplish so you have to be 100% focused.

The first thing you need to know about anchor goatees is that your chin hair should NOT connect to your mustache in order for it to look an anchor.

Secondly, you should trim your soul patch into a v-shape if it not already like that. Also, clean the area around it a bit. You should not have much hair around the soul because we need to point out the thin lines on the chin.

Thirdly, optionally, trim your mustache to make it thinner. This works nicely in this specific style. Makes the whole beard style more modern and badass. Normally, I do not suggest you make your mustache thinner but we make an exception for this style.

This will be the most significant part of the process.

Moving on.

Step 4: Shave your neckline

Everything on your cheeks and on your neck below the cheeks should be shaven completely.

But, what about the neck hair underneath the chin?

Well, that’s a personal preference but, in general, we recommend you create your goatee neckline 2 fingers width above Adam’s apple. Everything below that should be clean-shaven.

Remember we want to point out our fresh goatee.

Step 5: Wash your Face and Check Out If Everything Is Fine

The last step of the process is to wash your face to get rid of the facial hair and look in the mirror to see if everything looks good.

If you don’t like something, feel free to dry your face and fix some details.

Keep in mind that practice makes perfect! You ain’t gonna do it exceptionally well the first time, but as time goes by, you will master the process!

How To Maintain Anchor Goatee

Now that we have the anchor goatee, we should be aware of what we should do to maintain it like that.

Unfortunately, anchor goatee is a style that needs frequent maintenance. You guessed it. Everything you trimmed today will have grown in 4-5 days.

I recommend you take a few minutes to maintain it and trim the areas we mentioned above every 4-5 days otherwise you would have to do everything from scratch later on and also create the outline again, which is tough.

Apart from trimming you should also follow the necessary grooming routine for bearded men. At least you need to wash your beard once a day and apply a few drops of beard oil.

We also advise you to brush your beard a bit even though your beard is short. Help your skin breathe, remove dead cells, and train your facial hair to grow in the right direction.

This routine takes about 10 minutes per day. Just do it for YOU.

To Sum Things Up

Overall, the anchor goatee is considered a unique, stylish, yet demanding beard style that can elevate your style and your confidence.

It is a high-maintenance style but rewards you with the compliments you get.
